This is a tree I did 3 years ago but the woman i did it for has 'lost' it and she's asked for a copy , anyway, it's Richard Ball Houghton born 1890 Bickerstaffe. I don't think he was married before 1911. Thanks x

Makes you think doesn't it dotty when Thomas is aged 13 and is a Haulier Underground..

all kids were allowed to do half time working at 13, he will have attended school in the mornin then gone to the pit in the afternoon, the local authority provided a half-time certificate and you can still look up the records for them in the LA archives in most industrial towns. The girls would work half-time in the mills, or some worked the pit-brow, the hauliers pushed the coal carts out of the mines that were too low for pit-ponies,
