WIth the current choice of US president, and the fact that the idiot got re-elected (An idiot, for idiots, voted by idiots), isn't it about time the UK revoked the independence of the United States?

I have no intention of taking this thread seriously but it always makes me sad when citizens of the good ol' U S of A make such erroneous statements like 'who bailed you out of ww2'.

FDR understood the implications of such a major war in Europe and the peril that would follow if Hitler were to win but Congress and the majority of the citizenship were happy for the 'Old World' to fight against Fascism unaided.

The only reason the USA were forced to enter the war, more than 2 years after hostilities began, was because Hitler declared war against them on 7th Dec 1941, the day after another Axis power, Japan, attacked Pearl Harbour.

Without this act of war they would never have 'bothered' to 'bail us out'.

Question Author
The reason Hitler declared war on the US was because he saw a large chunk of the US Navy taken out by the Japanese when Pearl Harbor was attacked. Japan was lured into attacking Pearl Harbor by FDR specifically to lure Hitler into thinking the US had been weakened by the attack, not to mention the fact that the US would be fighting a two front war. What Hitler, and Japan, failed to realise was that no significant naval forces were destroyed in the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Obviously Looshead is into judging books by their covers.

I'm intrigued how FDR lured the Imperial Japanese Navy 4000 miles to attack Pearl Harbour.

The bulk of US forces fought in the Pacific not Europe, reinforcing my previous 'bail out' post.

Hitlers downfall has more to do with Russian involvement then American even though all Allies played a part.

just to let you know my husband told me what to write. you(skids) burned his arse talking about the usa. he has more to say to you but i'm going to end this now. i didn't join to **** people off. i enjoy this sight. i came to this site to ask about the problems my daughter is haveing. i myself don't know too much about what your arguing about. so please lets call a truce! @----->-----

I don't think we have any right to criticise US people, politicians, and voting records.
How would we like them to criticise our equally flawed system.
If you want a say in US politics then move there and become a citizen and vote.
I'm English and living in England by the way.

'How would we like them to criticise our equally flawed system.'

I, for one, welcome criticism on any subject as long as any points made are valid and not along the lines of 'we're better than you, nah nah nah-nah nah'.

Without criticism how can things get better?

It always makes me laugh when American people say 'who bailed you out of WW2'.  Well, if Britain had fallen to Germany then how would USA have helped against Germany?  I mean, they can't fly all the way from the USA to attack Germany can they?  USA benefitted from WW2 big time, in part exchange for weapons they received islands, gold, secrets, captured Germany aircraft and technology.  If they hadn't have entered they wouldn't be the super power they are today, simple as that.

Anyway, back to the main thread, well, Bliar is an idiot too so does that make Brits idiots as well? :)

Yes and No.

Yes to those who voted for him and no to those who had no viable alternative to pick from and for that reason alone didn't vote at all. (That's not a get-out clause for those who can't be bothered to vote).

Can we not revoke independence and force them on the French?
