Yes, Islam is a peaceful religion and most Muslims of this world adhere to that interpretation. However, there are those few who will interpretate the religion differently in order that they can in some way justify their actions in accordance (and adhering to) the rules of the Qu-uran.
From Wilkipedia:
"The Arab term for suicide bombing is "Isshtahad" whereas the suicide bomber is called a shahid (pl. Shahiddin, literally 'witness' and usually translated as 'martyr'). The term denotes one who died in order to testify his faith in Allah, for example those who die while waging jihad bis saif; it is applied to suicide bombers, by the Palestinian Authority among others, in part to overcome Islamic strictures against suicide. This term has been embraced by Hamas, Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, a branch of Yasser Arafat's Fatah, and other Palestinian factions engaging in suicide bombings.
Some (particularly US) have attempted to popularize the term "homicide bombing" as a synonym for "suicide bombing" in order to de-emphasize the self-sacrificial connotations of suicide bombing and emphasize that suicide bombers are committing murder as well as suicide."
Furthermore, these people are criminals and murderers, not martyrs. My concern remains over the people who are able to 'brain wash' these individuals into believing that they are doing the right thing for themselves and their 'cause'.
Regardless of what religion they pretend to follow they are still murderers and pawns in a political movement, not martyrs of Islam.
A LOAD OF OLD RUBBISH I'd love to put something stronger!
Karma?
I am now unsubscribing to this thread due to the pure, unadulterated trash being expressed by some users.
We have freedom of speech but there are times when 'kill the infidel' is an excuse to vilify everyone who doesn't agree
Add into this the basis of a belief system on faith and other irrational concepts and it takes no great leap to add another. The 'victim' is already brainwashed to a certain degree and dependant on the teachings of their religious guides - they don't question or have any other rational checks because rationality has been subsumed by faith.
I think you missed the point old bean.
I think it is important not to classify Islam as the root of all terrorism throughout the world. Religion will always be perverted by those who seek to use it for their owns ends. It is an extremely powerful weapon.
I personally am a Christian, and my two best friends happen to be Muslims. I would never blame them for being part of a religion that is being twisted just as Christianity has been. However I do believe that the Islamic community in this country must ensure that there is control amongst themselves, and crush any practices or teachings that may encourage violence towards the people of this country. Preachers such as Abu Hamza and Omar Bakri Mohammed (please excuse spelling errors) should be destroyed by the Islamic community, as they have great influence over people, and ultimately provide the inspiration for the extremist side of Islam.
Terrorists may claim to be Islamic, but this neither means that they obey the teachings of Islam, nor that Muslims are terrorists. We, as a developed and intelligent community, should not place the blame upon the Islamic community, but we should encourage them to ensure that all their practices maintain the Islamic standards for peace.
