I recently watched an dramatised documentary regarding frustrated women in the early twentieth century. Can anyone remind me of the name of the 'condition' and what the doctor treated that with?

I thought the condition would be 'men' and the cure chocolate.

This could be what you're looking for.

hysteria maybe - the word is related to hysterectomy and suggests the problem was to do with the womb, which was somehow thought to be roaming around the body upsetting things.

The use of a vibrator was thought to help.
Also green disease: the cause - virginity, the cure - a husband. Also called chlorosis.

Stewy - That's the very one! 'Hysteria' I think at the time many male doctors would have quite enjoyed treating this 'illness'......;)
Horseshoes I think yours is a better answer ( altho I think the producer meant hysteria because of the 21C 'now' sexual element )

[ or possiby neurasthenia ]

Chlorosis - could have been anorexia with anaemia - but the observers clearly described a greenish tinge - which is now never seen. - last case around 1900
The whole thing about the so called hysteria, was that it could be or should be treated by sex.
