yes Mikey ..had a read of his bio on wickipedia.....one of "those" families...military in the bones o' 'em ....what a credit to family ..queen and country

I wouldn't want to take anything away from those who actually receive awards for valour but, as an example, didn't everybody who scrambled out of a trench during WW1 and walk towards German machine guns show extraordinary courage?

Sandy...according to the citation, this lad showed extraordinary bravery, or Valour as it is known in military parlance.

To summarise :::::

"Under fire yet undeterred by the very clear and present danger, Lance Corporal Leakey ran across the exposed slope of the hill three times to initiate casualty evacuation, re-site machine guns and return fire. His actions proved the turning point, inspiring his comrades to fight back with renewed ferocity. Displaying gritty leadership well above that expected of his rank, Lance Corporal Leakey's actions singlehandedly regained the initiative and prevented considerable loss of life"

But it doesn't take anything away from every soldier that has ever fought in both WW's.
