I was having a chat to a rather tough acting /looking fella the other day
and i mentioned the Isle of Man
He said that he had the birch their once, and if he were ever to go back he wouldnt even fart out of place
If its so good why cant we bring it back?
The UK abolished the birch in 1948. As the IOM is not part of the UK it remained until the 70s but rarely, if ever used. Whilst I would cheerfully welcome the return of hanging I would draw the line at the birch, smacks too much of Islam.
I'm not sure it's as efficacious as you think. I knew an unsuccessful criminal who spent more of his adult life in prison than at liberty. He'd been birched when younger and it didn't change his criminal career.
Thou rascal beadle, hold thy bloody hand.
Why dost thou lash that ***? Strip thine own back.
Thou hotly lust’st to use her in that kind
For which thou whipp’st her.
We used to go on holiday to the Isle of Man when I was a child. My parents, and grandparents had told me about the birch. My knowing about it, ensured that I behaved impeccably for the whole two weeks.
// Could a potential candidate for birching avoid it if he confessed to being a masochist?//
yeah if the wrong doer were a sado-masochist, and was down for birching would it be worse punishment for him if the beadle were to stand there and say," I won't!"
