Amritsar Massacre
Watching the C4 documentary on the 1919 massacre at Amritsar . Shocking, appalling - and the typical reactions from the descendants of the British officer who ordered his men to open fire on the unarmed crowd, and those of his defenders, was “It wasn’t a massacre, it was riot-containment.”
You can imagine similar comments from descendants of the Nazis - it wasn’t genocide, just over-zealous prison guards - sickening.
How little we British know of our own bloody history.

And what about the Gurkhas?

// A few days earlier, in reaction to a recent escalation in protests, Amritsar was placed under martial law and handed over to British Brigadier General Reginald Dyer //
If you are placed under Martial Law, best not to challenge those who did it, will only end in tears.
PS, you are a very offensive Senior Citizen, but to be honest you bother me not one iota.
Jno
Why are you living in the UK. If you resent Sir Winston Churchill I would remind you that if not for him you would be under the German jackboot and have a short life expectancy no doubt.
The Germans of my generation fully acknowledge the crimes of their forbears. Some of us accept their reconciliation and have no wish to rub their faces in it.The real Englishmen are too better mannered in this day and age.
Perhaps you better have a good study of your Trot mates and how the Gulags are still run today with the pogroms of genocide in Russia Brainbrig.

// PP. You really are not as smart as you try to portray yourself. Drancy is situated in le belle France//
no no I really am as bright as I say I am - la belle France by the way
//so la chute de France was a police action? erm if you say so! // I mentioned earlier so Drancy is in context.
Both transit camps in fact - westerborks claim to fame is that the train oudda Westerbork contained - - Anne Frank.
altho I have to say that I dont there will ever be agreement on Amritsar - there was however sharp criticism at the time - there was a public inquiry which did NOT support Dyer.

Bainbrig am almost your age so you would know of the Idi Amin & rubber necklaces. Are you hindu or sikh? Sikhs in uk dont get the deference theyre used to India; no ayahs here and certainly no dallits to kick around.
My son went to Amritsar with his indian postman; postie cant leave his palatial amritsa home for fear of being beaten up as locals see him as a traitor to India. My son made lots of friends with the locals without any threats at him.

Tamborine. What difference do the religious affiliations of the Indian branch of my ancestry make to anyone, or to the undisputed facts of this massacre?
Do I ask YOU whether you come from this or that ‘British’ religion?
This is diverting attention from the real issue.
The British Empire was inherently racist and self-aggrandising. Dyer and his ilk were no different from the jack-booted Nazi thugs who terrorised Europe 25 years later.

You still don't get it, tamborine, do you.
We had NO right to be in India, NO right to have 'garrison towns', NO right to the 'East India Company'.
We were no different from the Nazis in France, or Holland, or Poland, or (add all the occupied countries here). The people of India (France, Holland, Poland, etc) had EVERY right to try and throw us out.
