Belgian Ban On Halal And Kosher Slaughter
i have to agree the ban is correct, animal suffering for some archaic religious belief
this ban should be in all western countries, as a meat eater myself i would not want the animal
to suffer, call me a hypocrite err vegans would but i do actually care about them suffering.

Animal rights activists never mention halal meat, as they are part and parcel of the same set of people that have unwavering support of the Muslim communities and all their traditions, so they would be tearing themselves inside out trying to reconcile the two issues, so they just ignore it.

I am against breeding and slaughtering animals in order to provide us with food that we like but do not need. I don't know a lot about kosher or Halal, but what I have heard does not sound very pleasant - designed to comply with some old god's word and/or for health reasons in an ancient time with no refrigeration.
I think that a secular state would take animal welfare above the requirements of religions. Some religions used human or animal sacrifice as part of their rites and I think that wouldn't be felt acceptable nowadays. Slaughter and sacrifice as a sign of love or fear of god seems to me to be an obscenity, contradicting all my instincts of decent treatment for living entities. I think modern secular authorities should not protect such religious practices, any more tha FGM.
//I've lived without it for 50 years and am in reasonable health. How are you feeling?//
I've lived with it ever since I could chew and I feel absolutely fine. Whether we need it for health or economic reasons I care not a jot. I need it because without it I would not have the sort of diet I enjoy. I also don't like or cannot eat many of the meat substitutes that non-meat eaters enjoy so my diet would not be very balanced.

i wonder if such a ban will ever happen here, you see lot's of animal rights marches etc, but they dont mention such slaughter, only chicken farming? and pigs have feelings pun, i would be a good idea to ban it.
who knows it may lead to an exodus of people to a pro halal country
may even put off some of the dinghy arrivals.

Emmie, some of my shoes are leather, and I do eat eggs and cheese and sometimes eat fish and very occasionally a bit of ham or (very rarely) wild boar. I'm not a fanatic or fundamentalist, but I think it's better to be a bit humane than not humane at all. I know that's not very well put, but it's all I can manage.
