£100,000 Of Tariffs Slapped On Bananas

Can someone please explain what is happening with regard these imports.
I thought Brexit would free us to trade with the rest of the world. In practice it seems the Government is using the opportunity make loads of money for mr Rishi.
Presumably all this extra cost will be made up by higher prices for the consumer.

but this is the first one I've seen that's in complete conflict with an explicit government assurance.

My guess is like much of the legislation changes all brought in at once, certain details may not be clear. Probably needs priority clarification.

Perhaps the EU had a trade deal with African farmers but none similar has been agreed/set up with the UK yet ?

We have a deal. But not as good as the previous one apparently.

He says he had hoped to take part in the “sunny uplands” promised by the government post-Brexit but failed to check what he needed to do to benefit from the change, and as a result of this management drop off has temporarily seen the viability of his online retail come to a “dead stop”. Instead of sorting his error he has now chosen to move future investment from the UK to the EU instead.

Nowt to explain. They are working on a deal to remove the tariffs.

it seems in fact that they are still doing as advised, as companies are now being told by the government to set up businesses in the EU

The UK and Ghana completed a post Brexit deal on New Years Eve. Yet the UK Gov are still levying huge tariffs on these banana importers. Why?
