As I understand it she wants everyone to be given points to spend on things that have a negative effect on the climate - fuel for the car, gas and electricity in the home, flights, meat, new clothes, imported food, imported everything...

Everyone would have a set number of points to spend as they wish for one year, and when they are gone, that's it.

I can see many problems with this - racketeering on the black market being one.

Good idea?

no doubt thered be exemptions for essential flights to attend climate conferences.
This one would'nt be workable and would'nt save much if just done here but its good that people are trying to come up with ideas
The only rationing i have ever experienced came when i was in the army in Germany. We were given cigarette coupons (can't remember how many) each month which enabled us to buy our 'fix' on the cheap. Many a heavy smoker ran out well before the end of the month and the non-smokers made a bit of a killing selling their coupons.

Exemptions for actors to fly to foreign lands for filming?

Similar thing happened with general rationing during WWII, too.
I’m with her in her campaign against single use plastics but this is a no go.

I bet you say that to all the boys!
Sussed me Jim.
I could see it working if it was administered totally fairly ie no exceptions for ANYTHING.
If there were no exceptions, what would you do if an individual had used up their ration but were in an emergency situation?
They’d have to go without I suppose, like people did in WWII.
Exemptions for wildlife documentary makers who make millions of pounds jetting around the globe and then tell us all how bad Carbon Dioxide is for the environment.
Sound like something dreamt up by Orwell as a warning against totalitarianism. The only rationing required is that of limiting the inane musings of the luvvies.
Orwell didn't have to dream up rationing, he lived it. He wrote ‘No one complains of these restrictions.'
I thought that Togo.
Workable with the mindset of people these days. Absolutely not. Also why take notice of what the likes of JL has to say?
because JL fought for and won decent treatment of the Gurkhas who fought for Britain, so she's in credit in my book, despite her advocacy of the Boris Bridge.
That’s exactly it, lottie. In the 30s and 40s most people had nothing anyway and were used to scrimping and scraping to ends meet. It’s a different world now.
