What would have happened if the British comprehensively won the war. Would the US still have become the superpower it became in the 20th century?

I'd guess there'd have been expansion into the country by France and Britain - California is anybody's guess.
I'd say most like the country would have been carved up between England France and Spain with eventual independance under the commonwealth much like Canada.
So no probably not although you never can tell.
The Easter Rising was comprehensively put down in Ireland in 1916 and within 5 years the free state had been established with full independance 20 years later.
If it had been sucessful people might be posting questions like "If the Easter Rising had been put down would Ireland still be part of Great Britain"
