i had no idea that the allies kept the same laws in place which prevented these people from seeking help as victims of nazism.... shameful!!
as hostility toward trans people is on the rise in the modern day and trans women in particular are often portrayed as threatening and prefatory this seems like an important history to remember

That could possibly be a function of the very vocal and sometimes unpleasant campaigns being presented by transgender people and their supporters. When women who question transgender rights (as they believe they will adversely affect them) are labelled “TERFS” and when some transgender supporters suggest it is acceptable to call for their decapitation, people sometimes get the hump. Those who may not be prepared to put their argument in a civil fashion (and there are a lot of them about) may be inclined to commit “hate” crimes:

//I mean that they declined to amend the german penal code where it discriminated against LGBT people but presumably did remove the parts that discriminated against jews//
Ah, right. Did they amend the German Penal Code in favour of Jews? (I don’t know, just asking). What you have to remember is that they were different times. It was getting on for eighty years ago. Attitudes then were very different to those of today.

because my understanding is that the word "transsexual" was coined in an earlier era and "transgender" is the more modern term to describe essentially the same group of people factoring in the advances in medicine since the word "transsexual" was coined... a tiny bit like the way we used to call PTSD "shellshock" or used to call HIV "GRID"
untitled: "did you read my links on page one about the Hirschfeld institute? " - yes I did but I don't see why it's necessary to analyse the proclivities of murder victims. Lots of groups could be distilled from the overall but are not why do you see it necessary to distil this one? I just don't understand what you are getting at.
Ah no, transsexual is someone with dysphoria- who is serious enough to actually go through surgery and hormones. Ime, at least, they still understand they are actually men (or vv).
Transgender, covers someone literally saying "I am now a woman" or vv....
Lbh, even a man, say, having a cosmetic op and fake hormones, still remains a man. We all know this... so, if it works for him, the problem was clearly not that he was the wrong sex. That hasn't changed. It would be better to adjust social expectations and judgement, surely??

I think the history is important because trans people still face significant hostility in the modern world and it's important to remember the dangers of attacking and dehumanising them... those victims would want to be remembered for who they were, not for who their murderers said they were
it's not just me who says so - holocaust memorial organisations and the german parliament do as well
and also on top of all that i do just think it is interesting... i read quite a lot about the holocaust and didn't know much about this at all!
