Is it true that when Nelson's Column was built they had afternoon tea on top (before the statue went on)? I heard it was the architecht and the Prime Minister.

Click http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/review/274989.html and scroll down the page to the section headed 'Statues'. In the second paragraph there, you will see the information that the 14 masons who had been involved in the construction had a dinner-party atop the column before the statue was installed. No mention of Prime Minister or architect, however.
