A President of the US may only run for two four-year terms of office. This was decided upon after FDR won 4 consecutive terms in office, thus creating an 'old guard' type situation in the government. Supreme Court justices were appointed at his behest, thus disrupting the balance of power between the three branches of government. I'm sure there are more reasons a president can run only for two terms.
