no it doesnt indie, i knew someone who was 19 and had never washed her hair in her life and it was very healthy looking hair, more so than most peoples.
The problem with doing this is not human secretions but atmospheric dirt. If you lived in somewhere with no atmospheric polution, then it might work but hair picks up dirt just like hands and faces do, hence the need to wash it.
i didnt wash my hair for 9 months when a student and aget a couple of months it started to get cleaner and less greasy, although it felt like it was getting cleaner i still felt that shampoo did a much better job, i would say the myth is right but overhyped
When I was 16 I had an operation on my spine and I was in a plaster cast up to my neck so I couldn't wash my hair for 6 months. It was greasy and vile so we used to shake talcum powder onto it and then brush it out and it worked really well. You don't need shampoo.
