The plan was for Germany to invade France by going through Belgium, thereby sneakily avoiding the defences along the French-German border.
The von schliefflen plan was devised by a prussian staff officer and was a plan that would quickly destroy france if successful.The plan called for the majority of the german army to strike on the right flank while holding the centre and left with the minimum possible.It has been thought that the reason the plan failed was that the germans did not follow von schliefflen's maxim and did not give enough troops to the right flank
