WHY is there a god?

WHY there should be a god? WHY? To make me feel good? To protect me? From what? And why should this god protect me anyway? So I don't die? That is ludicrous; of course I will die some day! Does god exist to create a world for me to live in? Didn't the omnipotent god realize that I would make a mess of the world some day? Kill off so many of the world's other inhabitants? Why doesn't god protect the deer and the snowy owl, too? Am I simply part of god's "ant farm"? God's plaything?

alawibaz, everyone keeps saying that the world around us is proof that god exists but I do not see that. Maybe if I had some specific examples of gods majesty and creative fervor, I would be less inclined to be critical. BTW, if I saw a shack on a supposedly deserted island, yes, I would think that a PERSON was nearby, not god, necessarily. Where is the proof that god exists? Is the proof that earth is such a great planet? That is an accident! It is very simple; any closer to the sun, earth would burn; any further away, we would freeze. That is why we exist on this planet, not because of god. If god did exist, why doesn't he create life on mars, life that is well suited to that planet's particular physical geography, just as everything that lives here is well suited to the earths geography?

graceinspace you are a very persistent person in not believing all the proof that is around you. you will never see god in human form in this world and furthermore you want to see life on mars if god wills im sure he would but the reason is if man cannot live peacefully on earth why would god want to create life on mars.are we suitable to live there like civilized human beings when we cant even live on this earth like decent human beings constantly battling each other if not at home or its agaist country so living on earth is well suited for gods creation he can do anything he is magnificent the glorious and praise worthy and the most powerful can you not understand look around you you have all creative favours it seems like you dont want to understand him ,true believe educates man and traines him in hope and patience in truthful and honesty in love for the right and good,in courage and endurance, all of which required for the mastery of the great art of living. you expect to see god around you but you will not see him and you can feel his presence but you denying it you have all the proof if you have heart then believe it try and try till you sucseed dont expect miracles you have to put some effort in to believe

alabiwaz, WHY should I believe? You say god wouldn't put people on mars because we would simply make a mess of mars like we have the earth, right? Why does god allow that to happen? If god is powerful enough to make the earth for us to live in, surely he is powerful enough to not only create life on every other planet in the universe, but to control it as well. Incidentally, I do not wish there was life on mars necessarily, I just wondered why god, who is supposedly so powerful, did not create life there. I sincerely doubt it is because god would think mars people would be unruly like earth people, I think it's because there is no god! Anyway, why should I believe in god? How would it profit me? I do not need an explanation for how the world was created; I'm familiar with the scientific explanations for the origins of the universe. I do not require the social support of a god; in times of trouble, I gain strength by believing in myself, my friends, and family. I do not need to believe in life after death or immortality; I have no fear of what should happen after I die; I suspect nothing will happen, I will just cease to be, and that's ok! This is what else I believe: the hypocrisy of the Bible, the church, and all religions and their adherents. I know so many supposedly "good" christians, muslims, and jews who are unkind, uncharitable, and basically unloving toward their fellow men and women. Religion as a socializing agent clearly does not work, and as an explanation for how the world works it does not work. So why should I believe?

oh, and as for the formation of the universe, there is a field called quantum mechanics that pretty much describes the theoretically quantifiable, qualifiable movement of particles that are created out of nothing and disappear into nothing, all without upsetting the zero balace of matter and energy. Not everything requires a creator, clearly, and even if everything did, that does not automatically mean that god is responsible, it may just be something we haven't discovered yet. Remember how once upon a time everyone thought god made the sun revolve around the earth? There are reality-based explanations for much of what goes on in our world, you just have to find out!

WHY SHOULD YOU BELIEVE? simple fact he created you. god does not allow any bad things to happen,its the individual human spiecies that corrupt it. god is so powerful and has created another world for us but we cant have it yet we need to earn that better life in another world. you're question about god of how he could profit you, this everyday life itself is a profit. scietific will eventually will believe the existance of god , you may not need any help in the time of need but when youre on your own and in a deep need situation i might not be there to hear this but you will seek out for help to god. this will prove that you do believe god. family friends are there to gain strength but not all the time. you have not seen good people yet there are some out there but you still have to find them there is love but greed has spread over it we are all individuals each doing there own buisness at the end we are all gods creatures believe it and finally this qauntum mechanical suff its all gods creation believe it everything around you is gods miracles the true beliver is a kind person. life is a trust from god and man is a trustee who should handle his trust with honesty and skill

Wow... This topic sure had struck some serious dispute. I've read all of the posts and found that RevShirls's comments to be the least judgemental.

 

In regards to Graceinspace's first question, I would like to explain it in my point of view. I know we've discussed this a thousand times, but so far as far as I'm concerned, science haven't the ability to proove that God exists in anyway. Scientists were merely amazed as to how the environment came to be simple because their level of knowledge was insufficient to understand the truth of the origins of the universe. The bible/quran have written texts depicting a God but then again they were written in the author's point of view, not handed down by God himself.

 

Unless its proven scientifically, to me, God is just an idea.

 

An idea created by a man/woman to control mankind. If I were to go back in time, and bribe/trick/fool the authors of the original bibles/quran, the God as we see it today, would be very different no? The same goes for the reason why we can't believe everything the papers say beacuse we would only be believing in the journalists point of view... As humans with intelligence, we should ponder and acess every possibility..

The role of God, initially, was of course to bring peace and joy to the world, (let's not think of God's role as a creator because we have no idea in the first place who created the universe), but throughout the millenias, the different ideas of Gods made and conjured by so many different authors stemming from various religions have caused wars like Jihads or Crusades.



Suddenly the role of God was associated with the icon of war and death. Ironic isn't it?



God is what we make it to be. It's an idea. It's role in society is very very simple and straightforward. It can serve as a media to connect people, it can serve as a role model, it can serve as a guide, or it can serve as the reason for war.



It will serve what we want it to serve.
