Does anyone have any traditions that they keep to on Christmas Eve? I used to always go to the night service at my local church but since moving house thats not possible. My mum always got me a new pair of pjs for christmas eve and still does.
I always give my children christmas eve pj's which they open and put on about 6ish. Even my eldest who's 11 now. It just seems lovely to go to bed in brand new pj's. I've done it ever since my eldest was born and I hope it's a tradition they'll carry on with their kids. If not I will!!!
I'm 33 and i still put on my new pjs on christmas eve. My wee one will only be 5 months at christmas but i even got her a new sleepsuit with 'my first christmas' on it.
We always have a mini buffet for tea, fresh bread, sausage rolls, and posh crisps....then we have a present 'from the christmas tree' just something small, not a main present. We sprinkle Reindeer dust outside, and leave a mince pie for Santa. My parents started it for me when I was born, and I've carried it on with my children. I love the PJ idea, I may steal that! Merry Christmas to you all.
I take the turkey out the freezer the day before christmas eve and spend all christmas eve trying to judge if it will be defrosted.
we always have a mince pie and pint of something for santa ans a carrot for Rudolph
I am nor working Christmas Eve now and so all day i will be shopping and by about 9pm i will be on the Baileys lol
You are more than welcome to steal the pj idea smudge. I have no idea why my mum started it but she still gets me a pair 33 years later which i am now doing for my wee one.
Can i ask if reindeer dust is glitter?
Not now, but when my children were small a glass of sherry and mince pie was always left out for Santa and a carrot for the reindeer. Needless to say, next morning the glass was empty, crumbs left on the plate and teeth marks in the carrot. So Santa and his reindeer must have come, mustn't they?
Reindeer dust is esentially porage oats mixed with glitter that you sprinkle on the lawn to attact the reindeer. We also hang a door key (not the real one!) on a pretty string for Santa so that he can get in since we don't have a chimney.
We always sit and read Christmas stories before bed. Every year I buy my kids a new Christmas themed book and write presented to "their name" on Christmas "year" in the front . A they are now 8 and 7, we have quite a collection and I will need to stop it soon as I am running out of decent books to buy!
