The Other Boleyn Girl
I've just finished reading "The Other Boleyn Girl", which I enjoyed immensely. Mary's first husband died of "the Sweats". Can anyone tell me what this was? It seems to have been feared as much as the Plague. I imagined it might be influenza, considering the fear at the moment of Swine Flu, which is also accompanied by high temperatures. I would very much like to know.

Thanks a lot. I've had a look at both websites and am absolutely amazed. Didn't know there was anything like this at all. It seems to have been a completely separate illness. At least I know now that there was an actual illness called the Sweats, or more likely The English Sweats. How interesting that it did not go into Scotland. I wonder what the Scots have that the English haven't!
