Ancient region in central Asia corresponding approximately to present-day Georgia

I think Iberia is where Spain & Portugal is today. The area to the east of the Black Sea where present day Georgia lies has been called Caucasus from the mountain range running diagonally from north-west to south east to the north of this region. Although this name is still used today it was in use in Alexander the Great's time (330 BC), was part of the latter Persian Empire (500 BC) called Bithynia, and prior to that was part of the northern reach of the Hittite empire when it was called Urartu (about 2500 BC).

Moose! I'll have to get a better Ancient History book! It mentions Iberian as a languge spoken in the west after the westward drift of tribes following the Indo-Eouropean invasion of the western Mediterranean about 1200 BC. However, Britannica supports your identification of Eastern Georgia as Iberia. Apologies.

My confidence was a cheat really.
