Light Bulb Keeps Blowing

When I switch on the light in one particular room it blows (if that's the right word) and makes all the other lights in that part of the house go off. I can resolve this by flicking the trip switch (again not sure if that's what it's called) in the electric cupboard but I have to replace the bulb in the light that originally blew.
This has happened about 5 times in the past month and I have got to the point now where I don't even bother replacing the bulb. It's just constantly off.
What would be the reason for this? Is it something as simple as the light fitting (which I recently changed) or would it be to do with wires and stuff? TIA

Why did you change the light fitting MadMen and has this only been happening since you changed it ?.

I changed it because when I put up a new light shade I noticed the white bit (sorry I have no idea what it's called) that the light bulb goes into was wonky. I tried taken it off and straightening it up but something inside had bent which is why it would go on straight. I put a new one on and it seems to be happening more and more now. It did happen before, but not as often.

If I were you I would take it of again and check the wiring, make sure there are no stray strands of wire that could touch another wire.

Go with what Tony has said, Madders. Take the lampholder (the white bit you mentioned) and rewire it. There is possibly a loose strand or two causing a fault.
Arcing possibly, which might explain why you're able to reset the MCB (miniature circuit breaker) until the next time.

Switch the lighting off at the fusebox first. At the wall switch works if someone competent wired it, but not if someone bodged it. Off at the fusebox is safer.

Are you sure you are using 240v bulbs and not 110v?

You're not buying cheap bulbs from Wilko are you? In my experience they don't last very long at all.
