Polycarbonate Roofing
I want to cover in, warm and waterproof part of an outdoor enclosure for tortoise ready for when the weather cools off. I've seen polycarbonate sheets which I think will work well and would like some advice as to the difference between the two and three layer type in terms of outdoor insulation over a small area for a short while. The DIY store I spoke with told me they were discontinuing the three layer as 'it didn't sell'. It is quite a bit more than the two layer - is it worth it? I understand the sheeting contracts and expands quite a bit and that special runners, nails etc are recommended. Can't I just nail it onto the framework ot is this a no no? Many thanks.

In a domestic situation, it would be better in that respect, but I doubt if the tortoise would notice :o)
Either way, it's not a great product for insulation purposes, so I'd just go for the TwinWall.
There are various fixing systems for conservatories and greenhouses, but for a simple enclosure, Simply screw it on. Drill a 4mm hole first, then screw using a plastic or rubber washer under the screwhead. The DIY store will have suitable roofing washers. Maybe use those plastic ones with the little "flip-off" top-hats.
