I've just installed a washing machine but not tested it yet.
So, would it be advisable to replace the joints with 'thread seal tape' or should the old stuff be fine ?
Assuming it is a new washing machine they do tend to come with a new inlet hose... so you shouldn't need any "thread seal tape"
The new hose will have a rubber seal in the base of the connector. This should meet up against the face of the inlet valve and seal when it is tightened up.
It's not the thread that creates the watertight seal, but the face of the rubber washer in the connector.
