About 14 yrs ago, I "papered" the plastic ceiling of my conservatory with the polystyrene on a roll. It worked brilliantly. The shading in summer reduced the heat, but provided insulation in the winter. I was even able to paint it.
This year it appears that the strong mix of wallpaper adhesive that I used has finally dried out. I now plan to re-do it, but using polystyrene ceiling tiles.
Are there any builders out there who can advise me as to what adhesive I should use to put them up? The wallpaper paste was messy to use, and obviouly didn't dry very quickly.
Someone told me to use coving adhesive. Thoughts please.
What Douglas said up there ^^^^ Maybe this............. http://www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/homebase-multi-purpose-coving-and-tile-adhesives---25l-257446 Try and find the ones with a Fire Classification....... or, if you want a gypsum product (same as plasterboard and coving) then go for these..........
^^ Even flame retardant I would not touch them with a barge pole.
As said they are a hazard , they still burn and give off very toxic fumes when in a fire. Don't even think about using them!!
^^ The big problem is not if they burn or not but what happens if the room has a fire that is not due to the tiles. The tiles will give off highly toxic smoke that can be fatal. The room may be relatively undamaged but the fumes from the tiles can easily kill someone.
The coving adhesive sounds good, peachybabe. It won't need much to hold each tile, a dab at each corner and one in the middle. That should make the roof easier to clean up if you change your mind later.
