I have a Baxi Combi 80e boiler which has decided to stop giving me hot water. When the boiler was installed, the Corgi engineer also fitted an external equalizer (directly onto the hot and cold pipes) to regulate the mix of hot and cold water. 3 years down the line the boiler has started to act funny, first providing hot water only when the central heating was on and either scalding hot or cold, now acting erratically with all sensor lights lit like a Christmas tree (main flashing light being the Central Heating fault light). The boiler is insured and the engineer who visited recently is adamant that the boiler is in perfect condition and the problem is with the equalizer (he only opened the cover, switched the boiler off and on and left saying it works). I had a plumber remove the equalizer today (cost me 150.00 !!!!) and now the situation is 100% worse: no hot water at all, not a drop, not anywhere, ended up boiling the kettle and washing my hair in the kitchen sink...want to kill the engineer but would go to prison. Any ideas?
We've got a Baxi and were told if there's a problem wtih hot flow, first check the pressure. There's a small 'tap' under the boiler which you turn if the pressure drops - it should rise again to about 2 bar..?
