A primer/sealer is required first

mrpeter is right it would take a few undercoats to cover MDF, but you can buy proper MDF primer, I think iv'e seen it in B&Q.

although get some decent gloss, no b&Q home brand as its too thin and takes lots of coats. get some dulux ect.
