removing transfers from bathroom tile

Can anyone give me some advice on removing old transfers from bathroom tiles? I cannot afford to re-tile and if I can remove the transfers that are there I can try and tidy up the plain white tiles.

I'd use 0 or 00 Fine steel wool. It shouldn't harm the tile, assuming they're fire glazed ceramic. If you need a little extra help getting the transfers off, you can dip the steel wool pad in a little varnish remover or mineral spirits, but be cautious of getting it on the grout since it might stain, especially if the grout hasn't been sealed for a long time. Hi, HJT40 I have done this in the past to the tiles in my kitchen. I used a stanley glass paint scraper and it worked a treat. It doesn't scratch the tiles and only costs about �1. Cheaper than retiling lol. As Clanad said though try to avoid getting the transfer on to the grout as it can be very difficult to get off. Good luck with it.

DONE IT! Glass scraper and the patern that had transferred on to the tile was easily removed with nail varnish remover!
