Airlocks in hot water tap
7 Answers
Upstairs hot water supply poor - trickle or ceases when downstairs kitchen tap is on. I've had downstairs bathroom tap running and air has been spluttering and flow varying from fast to slow for an hour or two, but not clear yet. When googled for an answer, suggest a length of hose between hot and cold taps to force the air back up using the cold water pressure, but I've got a mixer tap only and am a bit scared as I'm not a handywoman! If I continue to let the tap (taps?) run will the air eventually all escape? Do I need a plumber? Any advice would be gratefully received.

Firstly the mixer tap should be no problem simply block the nozzle, open the hot tap then the cold and it should work. The cold tap needs to be supplied from the mains not the cold water tank. The cold water tank won't have enough pressure to force the water and air through the hot water system. Kitchen taps are usually the ones supplied by the mains.

hi to get air in to your hot water side it must be coming from your open vent easy way of testing it take a glass of water in loft and put the glass of water up in the open vent and ask someone to open the tapes if water gets sucked up then this is the first problem it could mean your tank is scaled up around the bottom of the hat water tank inside or pipe size to small from cold storage tank to cylinder it should be 28 mm copper pipe supply . but your draw of couild be to quick from taps and cylinder not filling up fast enough yes you can do whot pug said but you will always have this problem unless you sort it out
