I'm no expect, just a diy'er, but surely you can't. Emulsion tends to be absorbed by the surface, whereas gloss does tend to provide a surface layer which you can scrape/paint stripper off. Emulsion is just generally painted over with more emulsion.
Postdog is right. Why would you need to remove the emulsion? Why not just paint or paper over the top of it.
Hold on, I've just re-read your question. You have stripped your walls of plaster, so what is the emulsion on?
Geemac raises a valid question! Never-the-less, emulsion generally won't stand up to a steamer. It'll soften, and can be scraped off quite easily. Any emulsion that has soaked in on application, and can't be removed, will provide a firm enough base for whatever you apply on top.
