I have painted a ceiling - its a new build and never painted before. The plaster was well dried out ( house is up 1 year) but when the light shines a certain way it is really obvious where I have painted, there are streaky marks despite the fact that I have done 3 coats with good quality white paint. I'd be grateful for ANY suggestions as to where I am going wrong! Many thanks!

No, cleversod I didn't water it down would that be the answer? It looks flippin' awful when the sun shines in through the window in the evening so I'd do anything! Dustypuss I did stir it but I will change the roller. Thankyou folks for your quick responses!

In case this is just the first of many dry plaster surfaces you paint - a 50 50 coat of water and emulsion is often called a miscoat ... advice on decorating with paint here...

another building hint and tip is to do the miscoat half and half with pva glue it used to be that B and Q did a cheaper large trade pva that was brill for this and here it is

Thanks for all the great advice it will stand by me in future, in the mean time I'll give it final coat with a watered down mix. Once again, Many thanks and Happy Easter!
Make sure you DO roller in the same direction,if you dont it will look even worse than it does already.I am a painter on new build houses. We can do a newly plastered ceiling in two coats.Dont thin the paint, just put two good coats on and dont be scared of the paint just keep it flowing. If you stop and start edges will just dry at different times and will look patchy.Roll straight across from wall to wall and just keep moving backwards until the whole ceiling is done, give it 10mins and repeat.Deep pile are the best rollers to use as you get more coverage, also i cannot stress enough that no matter what people say crown is the best pain especially trade paint. Its the best coverage you will ever get.Hope this helps.
