Is a family bathroom an old tradition in our ever increasingly fast lives.
I own a 3 bed detached property with ensuite and am considering putting a bath in the ensuite (with shower attached to bath taps) and a walkin shower in the main bathroom.
In all honesty, yes, I would expect a bath in the main / family bathroom. The first thing I woudl be thinking of on viewing the house would be the cost and timescale of getting a bath in there if there was not one already. Just prejudice I suppose.
the British love baths and I think one should be available for guests as well as family, without having to walk through the private area of your bedroom. So yes, even if I was family-free I think I'd look for one with a public bath, so to speak.
I've worked in the bathroom industry for 15 years and would defintely agree with the above answers. Usually people prefer a Shower Enclosure in an ensuite and a bath in the main bathroom. Maybe consider putting a shower over the bath in the main bathroom or even a 'P' shaped shower bath in then you have the best of both!
As jno says you don't want visitors going through your bedroom to use a bath!
with 2 children I would certainly want a bath in the family bathroom at the very least. Wouldnt mind a bath in the ensuite rather than a shower though but not at the expense of a family bath.
Unfortunately this issue we have is that the ensuite is bigger than the main bathrrom. There is no room for a bigger than standard bath in the main bathroom and cannot fit a 'p' bath either, whereas we can fit a nice double ended bath in the ensuite.
Also we cannot fit a nice double shower in the ensuite but could fit this in the bathroom.
To leave it as standard seems a big of a waste of space and a compromise on size of appliances.
I'm afraid I agree with the other answers too. I wouldn't say it would definitely put me off buying a house if I loved everything else but people with children are always going to prefer a bath in the main bathroom. You could always have a bath in both. In my opinion an ensuite is a special bathroom for the adults of the house only and a child free zone! I wouldn't want to be bathing my daughter in my ensuite over the house bathroom
Yes it would put me off buying your house, but unless you are thinking of selling in the near future then why not have what you want in your own home? It only becomes a problem when you want to sell, which may not be for many years to come.
