How do you secure cut floor boards after rewiring where one end has no wooden support from a joist?
Say to get at a certain area of the the floor underneath.

The easiest way to do this is to get a piece of 4x1 place this halfway under the board screwing through board into piece of wood, leaving half of it exposed then lay the other board down and then screw the board down, easy peasy.

Clamp a piece of 4x3" or 3x3" timber to the exising joist, maybe on both siides. Ideally use right-angled drill to make pilot holes for SCEWS. Such a drill is the de Walt Black & Decker Pofessional, built speciially for drilling through joists when re-wiring. If you had used this drill when rewiring the job would have faster, giving a great right-angeled hole in the confind space. Always SCREW DOWN floor boards in case of need to relift them as this minimises creaking and avoids damage to boards when doing so. Try tool-hire but if any more DIY buy one.

raysparks tried your idea problem if any heavy weight goes on the board it collaspses.not so easy peasy

It should be ok dsm if it taking heavy weight, then put piece of 3x2 or 4x2 fitted between joists and nailed though from either side of joists.

Hi knobby, it shouldn't happen should it, why do people cut the boards away from joists? did you manage to do it dsvd?
