I'm sure this has come up before but don't remember the answer. I have foolishly burnt a saucepan (not non-stick) - forgot to turn flame down - now bottom of pan is black. Have soaked and scrubbed (wot an interesting life I lead) - slight improvement only. Any magic tricks please?
i put washing up liquid and hot water into a pan and then put it on to boil on the stove. You will then find all the crap will rise up to the top, let it cool and then wash as normal
Pour in some lemon juice, leave it for a while then scrub with wire wool. I think if you boil beetroot in metal pans it makes them all shiny again too.
Thank you for all your speedy answers. Shall have a bash. Vagrant - the inside is burnt. Boo - normally I'd follow your advice - it's just that the pan has sentimental value, as my lovely late mum made tons of delicious goodies in it (big softy, me) so I want to try and rescue it. Thanks, all.
before you start wire wooling try heating up water with dishwasher powder in it or some biological washing powder, don't boil. mind the fumes leave it to cool and wash then rinse well.
If the pan is not non-stick, get one of those metal pan-scourers and give it a scrub with that.
Metal on metal usually does the trick.
(Wire wool would work too as that is metal but it can get a bit finnicky.)
