Looking for suggestions for a flowering plant with a stong pleasant fragrance.
We intend to put it by the front door so visitors, postman , door to door salesman (no not them really), notice the pleasing fragrance as they go to our door.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.if you are planting directly into the soil rather than a container try a triple planting of winter honeysuckle (lonicera fragrantissima) it is shrubby rather than a climber so it will give a support structure for a scented climbing rose Guinee is lovely a dark plummy red with heady fragrance or Zeph Drou as than the normal one)
Most shrubs only flower for a month so you might want to think of something to underplant it with.
I would suggest one of the mock oranges (philadelphus....coronarious, microphullus, belle etois, avalance) and underplant with stocks, blue petunias and marigolds.

Daphne odora, lovely and very strong smelling plant, we have one growing in the garden centre where i work and you can smell it from over 20ft away.
