Planting Flowers In Grass

How is this done? I see loads of daffs/crocus on the grass banks on my way to work, but obv after they finished, it' just like normal grass.
I would like to do something similar in my lawn, except perhaps with summer flowers as well as spring flowers. Is this poss and how do you do it (or do tey plant the bulbs then sprinkle grass seeds?)

Dig up a clump of earth with grass in, put in your bulbs, put the grass back. Water and watch ...

Had another thought. Throw the bulbs onto the earth so they land naturally. Dig up the grass where bulbs have landed, put bulbs in earth and then replace grass. They will then grow in a natural looking way rather than straight lines. Good luck! Remember to feed as well.

easy with bulbs, in autumn cut out turf, loosen and improve soil underneath to make sure its not impacted or poorly drained, plant bulbs at maximum recommended depth. Cover bulbs with good soil, replace turf and firm in gently. After the daffodils have flowered, deadhead if you can be bothered, either way wait until the leaves wither before mowing to allow the bulb to build up strength for the following year.

Or you could do the grass around the flowers with a pair of shears bednobs.

you can do a meadow lawn and mow paths through it but it won't stand "family" use.

or you can plant the flowers and bulb in odd corners and around the edges. Primroses do well in the damp shady spots where the grass gets thin.

i have daffs pop up in my lawn where we have turfed over flower beds, the first few cuts with the mower we tend to mow around them but once the flowers have gone we just mow straight over them....not managed to kill one yet

I did what Woofie and Tony suggest. Miniature daffs coming up nicely now on the lawn under my silver birch tree for the sixth year running, despite having had several inches of snow dumped on them more than once in the past week. Pretty as a picture when in bloom.

I've lots of crocuses planted in grass. If you cut the grass in the Autumn and it doesn't grow much over the Winter they have a chance to flower.

Planting bulbs in a lawn or grass area is often termed as "naturalizing" It's simple enough to do but the important thing to remember is that you have to let the leaves of the bulbs to die down before you can cut the grass, otherwise the flowers will not appear the following year.
If you can suffer the long grass until June, then go for it!.
Another way is plant the bulbs in small drifts or one or two islands, and mow around them.

As others have said, just plant them, though maybe in just one corner of the garden, that way you can mow the rest of the lawn whilst leaving that one corner until the leaves have died down.

If you do, you will need well drained poor soil and a sunny aspect. All of the existing turf needs removing and replacing with poor quality free draining topsoil.
