Brown Hedge

A lot of our hedge went brown two years ago, along with several others in the area, but last year it started showing signs of growing back and quite a lot of it is now green again but still has large dead patches, is there any hope that it will all recover completely?

Do you know which kind of hedge it is ?

Its a conifer hedge, Leylandii I think.

I suspected it might be Leylandii and I think its most likely to be conifer aphid, a lot of it about at the moment!

You may as well cut back the brown areas, if not too extensive and allow new growth to fill in the bare patches.
The aphids are hard to spot,as they hide among the leaf scales. If you do see any aphids (most likely in spring) they can be controlled with 'PROVADO'.
Dispose of infected material safely, burning is best.

thank you, I think I might have the brown bits cut out and try to train the green to grow over the gaps as you suggest chip chopper, I can't afford to replace it with a fence or I would, maybe it would be worth spraying it next spring, hopefully stop it getting worse, I never knew it was an aphid, little blighters.
