I start mine off in my frostfree greenhouse about now. Did mine about 2 weeks ago and they are just showing signs of germination

Well, well Sqaddy... I'm impressed, you're Jack of trades.
What else do you do and have not divulge? :)
society......LOL

I know "bu99er all" about gardening, but in Spain, Morning Glory, although pretty, is a *** nuisance, growing out of control, all over the place.
Sqad

Your not alone there, it does just the same on many Greek islands!
Never, in my opinion, I really regret sowing mine, pull it out every year but back it comes, twining around everything else in the garden if I don't watch it.Some tendrils are about 9' long and growing. Grows faster than ivy.-rosy
I grow Morning Glory every year because it was one of my mum's favourites. I grow mine in a big pot with a cane wigwam, just as she did.
I do the same as Tilly, I love them and sow them outside late April at the earliest. The one that is such a pest in the garden and twines round everything is the weed variety, greater or lesser bindweed. Morning Glory (purple, blue, crimson) is nowhere near so destructive or strong.
If I had known what I know now I would have done the same Tilly2, as they say 'when you know better you do better' lol -rosy

Thanks everyone, we call the one that takes over Convolvulus - look pretty but grow everywhere, all good answers so have picked ' best answer, at random.
Good choice Mags, Sqad loves to be given a best answer :-)
There are many kinds of Ipomoea (Morning Glory). I think Sqad lives in Spain. There and in the Greek Islands, you will find the wild form with deep blue flowers, this can be extremely invasive, and hard to control, but in the UK it is not usually hardy and will be killed by frost. In the UK, I suggest Morning Glory 'Heavenly Blue', seeds are readily available, and can be started indoors in April. Don't put the plants outside until the end of May, or later if weather is cool, or the leaves will turn white.

The white Convolvulus is a very invasive weed in the UK, impossible to dig out, can only really be controlled by spraying the leaves with chemicals, sadly.
The convulvus/vi that grow wild in med countries does not normally produce seed. It propagates itself by rooting where tendrils touch the ground.
