Does anyone have the best solution on dealing with moles.I have tried various
things including the trap but they seem to dig either side of the trap & miss it, or a stone flies into the trap before the mole.?

You could try blocking the easy option route with some spriggs of gorse or pieces of slate, to persuade to go through the trap.
