Allow hyacinths to die down naturally after flowering and then plant the bulbs in the garden at twice their own height. It's important to leave the leaves on until they die back naturally so that food may be produced for the new bulb. Plant in well-drained soil in full sun.
If you are going to wait to plant them when they have died down, then feed with a foliage feed from when they finish flowering until the leaves die down. The compost commercially grown bulbs are sold in has no food in it at all.
Better to plant as soon as the flowers are over. Plant deeply, even if that means covering the bottom half of the leaves and feed.
yes and yes. plant where they will catch the sun and feed a bit annually if you remember. The flowers won’t be so thickly clustered on the stem as the first year but they will be lovely and smell delicious
Thanks woofgang. I bought a pot with three hyacinths in for just £1 at Kempton market. They are a beautiful dark blue and double ones as well. I threw away the last lot I got (wish I hadn`t now) and I would like to save these. So shall I just wait until they have died down and plant them then?
