Why Are My Tomatoes So Spindly
Every time I try to grow tomatoes from seeds they
end up really spindly ( they look more like cress )
What am I doing wrong

When they grow spindly, they are usually searching for light. 2 seeds per pot and weed out the weaker. Turn the pots so they get even light and put in the lightest spot you have that they don't have to grow high to reach light (windowcills are good).
A much more professional gardener than I will probably give you chapter and verse. You may need more compost than you are allowing as well.

You don't say whether you have them in pots, indoors, a greenhouse or whatever interele. There are many causes of the stress, such as inconsistent water/feeding, inconsistent sunlight, and/or poor soil conditions and pests.
I would be here typing for an hour if I tried to cover all the reasons or remedies but this site gives a good set of guidelines. Tomatoes can be a frustration for the best of gardeners. Good luck. I have in the past had to again.
