i bought some pound shop roses and most seem fine. however some have leaves in groups of five or seven leaves to a 'sprig' ?. i have been led to believe that dog roses have groups of seven leaves and if this occurs on a cultivated roses it should be cut off. is this the case ? thank you.
The one sure way to tell is to have a look at the trunk of the rose. There should be a knob near the roots which is the graft. anything shooting from below this knob is shooting from the briar stock and should be pulled off. Anything growing from above the knob is the named rose variety and should be allowed to grow.
