When did you prune it? I do mine in mid February. Never immediately after flowering. I also feed with Aluminium Sulphate to deepen the colour. When the flowers have gone I leave them on all winter. They do not look pretty but they do the following summer. I have also watered them 3 times a week this year due to the dry weather. Lots of water.
I have a lovely blue hydrangea (well it goes pinky/purple if I don't treat it) and have had it about 10 years. Mine also didn't flower this year and I also only lightly prune off the dead heads after the last frosts. With mine I saw buds coming but they all shrivelled off in the heatwave while I was on holiday and it didn't get watered. I'm assuming it will return to normal next year.
Its been doing good up an til now and the only real change is/was the weather, right ?
I'm wondering if it got sufficient water during dry periods, and also has it become over-shadowed by other plants ?
