we have a large patch of moss in our lawn that oh wants rid of, trouble is he's in his eighties and can no longer do all the raking out this job used to take, is there anything on the market these days that will just kill it and stop it coming back?

Scarification is a good start.. this will help get any loose moss out of the lawn as well as grass or other bits and pieces. You could then use a variety of chemicals, but i'm not really for those.. I prefer a natural approach.

When it comes to moss, it can be tricky. A weed and feed will be a good next step.

Make sure your lawn receives enough light and not too much water.

Moss thrives in dark moist conditions.

Aeration and then laying more grass seed is a good annual lawn care 'tip'.

Probably need to improve drainage. That can be a job at the best of times, let alone at 80+. Maybe see if one can get a gardener to do the basic improvement ?

Thanks again to you all, looks like we can improve the lawn at least, and hopefully get rid of the moss, at least for a while.
When I could no longer handle raking out the moss I invested in an electric lawn scarifier. The same wee one as seen in this video. Very easy to handle.
