We have a very large (and old) pear tree in our garden. This year it has produced literally 1,000's of pears which are generally useless to us as the tree is so tall, they are impossible to pick. First question:- how do we identify the type of pears and secondly, would anyone be interested in them (such as a perry manufacturer?)

I doubt it, it's been a pretty spectacular year for most fruit and comercially they want them by the tonne.

Could you pick any that are low enough and put them outside your front garden with a charity box for donations perhaps?
Would a childs shrimping net be long enough to reach some at least? That's how I pick my plums!
