Last week when I lifted some pansies, the soil around the roots, was full of these browny,jelly-like,square lumps.I 've never seen anything like it before, and haven't managed to find them by trying online.I came across a jelly type fungus, but,it didn't look anything like the lumps I found.Anyone got any ideas?

are they snails eggs?
I think they could be water retaining crystals, sometimes known as swell gel. they was probably in the compost which your pansies was in. Regards Tbird+
