Strawberries

This is their third year and I have lots of fruit already but they don't seem to be putting out any runners this year for me to pot on .They are not in the ground but in a strawberry pot and various other containers .Are they past their sell by date and shall I chuck them once finished fruiting and get new for next year ? I have had a few ripe fruits already and they taste OK !

I rang a friend who grows lots of strawbs on his allotment & he says his haven't made runners either which he's putting down to the very dry spring (not so now is it?). He said they may fruit again & make runners again next yr - it's up to you whether you replace them or not. You could just replace some of them & see what the old ones do next time.

Hi Robinia and thank you very much for your answer ...In view of the monsoon we have just had about half an hour ago which was supposed to be a passing shower they ought to be putting out runners in all directions ! They are full of fruit so I shall keep them and see how they go but will buy a couple of new plants next season and compare ...that is if I am not living in a house on stilts by then xx
Actually, I don't see the problem

Ooo I like this thread Shaney, I like strawberries. Will you be knitting strawberry hats for us now - 'cos that would sure come in very handy when we wander off and they have to give our description on the radio to ask the public help us back home. Btw what alpaca yarn did you get for the wrist warmers?
Oh yummy I've had cream tea at an old-fashioned caf here in Stockholm although I'm not entirely sure the cream wasn't just whipped. Says in that article Vinny that the Abbey was plundered by a band of marauding Vikings so I think maybe I'll go plunder The English Shop nearby where I live - they have frozen clotted cream. I saw some Devon Cream in a jar there too but that was full of preservatives and transfats and junk if memory serves or at least I thought that it must be.
Did Ed know about us already, Robinia? Thanks for always always looking out for us.
There's a game here called Three Balls, it's completely mesmerizing: http://pyva.net/eng/play/

Please don't fight it Vinny it's just so we'll be able to find you if you get lost on your way home from the pub, remember.
Isn't this great, it's a Norwegian guy although he looks like rasputin
G'night all.
no wonder Vinny has an eye patch, those winkle pickers would put anyone's eye out.

morning mi ducks...you need to be a duck this morning, the garden actually squelched as I walked down earlier....where are you all, doing the great north run?
it's that way > > >
I had one of my epic dreams last night, so I'm a bit addled. It was one of those where I keep waking up & then going back into it, like a tv series, it's very odd but there was a handsome male lead so I just had to find out how it all worked out. :o)
<whispers>.....erm, I haven't actually swung anything with anyone, there was no reply, so we're making our own rules up....hey, don't blame it all on me...>

Make him sit in the corner ? I'll thwack 'im one .
Breakfast on the patio indeed ! The only breakfast you would have got on my patio today was rainwater . It's just left off at long last
What happened to the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness , close bosom-friend of the maturing sun?
The sun has matured here and disappeared into the ether never to be seen again by the look of it ....
Berroco Kit from Angel Yarns. A lady at our craft shop ordered it for me and at six quid a ball I can't afford to louse up !

groan... two new crowns, or at least I will have when the permanent ones come back from the lab... I've even lost my lovely veneer, the tooth behind it had dwindled to nothing. My mouth's still numb, which may explain any spelling mistakes... in my previous life I must have been a pharaoh, with the Egyptian double crown
