I planted some trailing ones up in potting compost in hanging baskets. I realised after, may be it would have been better to use my border soil. Am I going to get all leaf & no flowers?

hi sky, not at all, I would use potting compost too for hanging baskets
no skyep...you'll get no leaves & no flowers 'cos the caterpillars will have a feast!...hehe...just kidding, they should be fine. You could start watering them with a bit of tomato food added once they start to flower & dead head them regularly.

Oh, I've been watering them religiously!!!
What have you been planting up Robinia?
Al - When you get sorted, what about a little propagator! You can get them thermostatically controlled, use to have mine in the kitchen.
well I'm working on making my garden less work skyep, It's a very big garden & it's getting a bit much (weeal, you can have some of mine if you don't mind the trip to Derbyshire!) I say I'm not going to bother with tubs & baskets 'cos of the watering and then I go & buy loads of plants.....this yr mostly verbenas, fuchsias, lobelia, busy lizzies....more lobelia...more busy lizzies, lol (I got some reduced in B&Q) :o)

Robinia, I know what you mean! Every year it's such a chore to turn & weed the borders. Keep saying we will look in to someone paving the front garden at least, then getting some large pots, think I could handle that! Just planted some dwarf marigolds in the back garden, remember planting some years ago & they just kept on flowering for ages! Like to get my moneys worth! xx
I tend to my old mum's garden, will be doing that tomorrow, as she's not able and in any case she kills plants lol
Even houseplants dont seem to grow for her.

Ive ordered a garden arch which will arrive tomorrow and will grow climbers over it, bought a lovely wysteria on Sunday and want a clematis on the other side.

I will be all aches n pains tomorrow cos I have to build the arch too.

Rosemary & Thyme! lol!!!!!
Sorry skyep, but as it says on the packet, POOR SOIL so you will indeed get mainly foliage, but plenty of it.
I watched Monty Don a while back when he was showing how to plant nasturtiums and he actually used the stuff you brush up from your pathways i.e. little bit of poor soil and a lot of dust and grit etc.
