Bee Box

2 years ago we installed a bee box to encourage beneficial insects to our garden. It has been well used, and as the little critters go in they block up the holes with leaf cuttings. This years are green, last years are dead and brown. two questions; how do the bees get out, and should I unblock the old bamboo pipes?

The bees dig their way out when they hatch. We've never cleared ours out but the bees seem happy to keep coming back every year.
