Is it too late to plant something in tubs? I have no knowledge of gardening, but I would like to see some colour and I have bought some terracotta pots some of them large. Can someone suggest what I buy. Thank you.

I know nothing about gardening either! I recently brought some pansies which are doing really well. I had marigolds but the slugs have demolished them along with my sunflowers. I also planted sweet william which have a nice pink colour to them and they are doing well. If you go to the garden centre most plants have a label saying when they last until. I think all the ones I mentioned above last til first frosts.
Fill 'em with some good compost and put some annuals in.
They are the ones which are usually be called "bedding plants" and whilst they might be scarce they will be cheap!
You'll get 10 weeks out of "bedding Begonias" and I saw some on a market last week, very cheap!
Good luck
And after the summer, take out your bedding plants, and replace with miniature daffodils and winter pansies to last till next spring
