one that has a balance of NPK which are the 3 major nutrients. Growmore is probably the most popular general fertiliser.
Sorry, but Grow-more is a fast acting fertiliser I admit, but you really should advise something like Blood, Fish and Bone for a long slow acting release fertiliser. Idea; for the majority of plants whereas Grow-more contains lime which doesn`t suit many lime hating plants.
carlton - the question was not asking for a slow release fertiliser but was asking what a general fertiliser is. Growmore is a general fertiliser.

Icecoolsi was not asking for nutritional advice so none given!!
The balance to which Hawkwalk refers would be imprinted on the bag and would consist of three sets of numbers... thusly 10-10-10 or even 10-15-10 since not all plants need the same "balance"...
Hawkwood, I appreciate your comments, but I like to, if possible give additional advise if the person asking appears to be not very knowledgeable about gardening. Sorry if I appeard to be a know-al, I know from your past comments that you are very helpful.
